....then you just might be homophobic. :V
Let's put this into a context where it's insulting: when someone calls you gay, and you're actually not. HOW DARE THEY!! Can't they see how straight I am???

Meaning that it's somehow a bad thing to be perceived gay when you're straight. But wait! It's totally acceptable when you call gay people gay. Because.

I'm trying to make sense of it and it's not that easy.
So furthering that logic, it should be insulting whenever you assume a gay person is actually straight, and they're not! What is this I don't even
So then I tried to explain how thinking like that is a double standard and a homophobic one at that. Tip: never ever point out to a homophobic person that something they say is homophobic if you wish to continue having a conversation with them. They will absolutely take it personally and think you're attacking them.
Guys, being homophobic is not entirely a bad thing. If you recognise it and accept it about yourself, then it means you can change. Yay! It can be a good thing, too. But you know, a lot of people aren't even aware of their own prejudice, they are in denial. (Sort of related: there has been a study about the link between extreme homophobia and being gay. Apparently, it's not merely a speculation that the most homophobic people are themselves gay - they just don't know they are. Read ->

So you don't have to be straight to be homophobic. And I'm pretty sure those people aren't aware of it either. Because once you understand how your own prejudice is harmful to you and people around you, you can end it.
UNLESS. You are totally okay with being homophobic and don't see what's bad about it.

Some people are like that, seriously.
